1. It’s flexible
We’re all volunteers at Scouts, so we know how busy life can be. That’s why we prioritise flexible volunteering – you can choose how much you commit. Whether that’s one evening a week, every other week, or a behind the scenes role as and when you can. Any help you can give, makes a difference.
2. It’s in demand
Like most Scout Groups, we have a waiting list. That means there are young people in and around Edgware who want to experience Scouting, learn new skills and have adventure – but are missing out whilst we search for more adults. Once they join, they love it. We run Scouts to benefit young people, at low cost. (If you’re a parent, why not bring your kids along with you?)
3. It’s fun!
It’s not just for the young people – our leaders love it. You can hang out with some incredible people, try out some cool activities and brighten up your own week with something different. Get stuck in, make some memories and have a laugh along the way.
4. There’s plenty of support
We take care of each other at 2nd Edgware. When you start volunteering directly with young people, there’s time to settle into your new role and take on a bit of training (with optional extra modules if you’d like further support). Once you’re going, there’s hundreds of programme ideas online you can use, plenty of equipment to hand, support from the other leaders, and local activity providers (such as kayaking, or District organised events) that you simply book your section onto and turn up. Being a leader doesn’t have to be hard work!
5. It’s rewarding
It’s not just young people around Edgware who benefit. To summarise these statistics, volunteering is a way to meet new people, learn new skills, improve your confidence and engage your brain in something fun outside of work. That’s what’s kept 2nd Edgware run by volunteers for over 95 years. We’d love for you to join us and help shape our next chapter.
